What is a Nurse Practitioner?

The Nurse Practitioner is a relatively new role within New Zealand so this section helps explain my education and practice

Education

I started out achieving a Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 2001 from Otago Polytechnic. After this I worked in a variety of settings and countries as a Registered Nurse. After returning to New Zealand I went on to complete a Masters in Health Science - Nursing Clinical in 2014.

In addition to this I completed 2 papers in advanced Nursing Practice and Prescribing. All my Post Graduate Qualifications are through the University of Otago

My Practice

With the addition of the further training and qualifications, I became registered as a Nurse Practitioner in 2017 with the New Zealand Nursing Council.

This qualification allows me to practice independent of any other practitioners including doctors. I have the ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients under my own qualifications, including prescribing medication.

I currently work within a General Practice/Acute Care setting in my other job and then enjoy helping maintain and enhance the beauty of those who reach out to me through this business.
